This tall yellow flower is sometimes called Church Steeples or Sticklewort. It is a perennial and can grow up to 100cm but more usually around 50cm. Its seeds have spikes that promote dispersal by animals and is a good source of pollen for insects and butterflies.  Flowering in June, July and August it has a slightly fruity scent.

Often found in verges and margins of woodland or fields, growing well in dry pastures and rough areas.

Growing Information

Sow in the Spring or Autumn onto non-acidic soils and it should thrive if the area is not deeply shaded or poor to drain.  It spreads naturally by hooking onto passing animals.
